The Green Bay Packers have added wide receiver Kawaan Baker to their roster after claiming him off waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders. The announcement was made by General Manager Brian Gutekunst on Wednesday.
Baker, whose name is pronounced "kah-WAHN," stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 210 pounds. He entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (No. 255 overall) by the New Orleans Saints in the 2021 draft out of the University of South Alabama. During his rookie season, he spent most of his time on the Saints' practice squad but appeared in two games and recorded a tackle on special teams.
After being released by New Orleans in 2022, Baker joined practice squads for both the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles before returning to finish that season with the Saints' practice squad. In 2023, he participated in offseason activities with New Orleans but was released after training camp. He then spent part of the following offseason and training camp with the New England Patriots before joining the Raiders for a portion of this year's training camp.
During his college career at South Alabama, Baker caught 126 passes for 1,829 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for 376 yards and had 11 rushing touchdowns on 92 carries. Baker will wear jersey number 17 for Green Bay.
