The New Bedford Port Authority has completed Phase V of the New Bedford Harbor Dredging Project, which began in 2019. This phase is part of an ongoing effort to maintain and expand navigation channels, support maritime commerce, and protect the economic health of the region.

According to the NBPA, "The Phase V Dredging Project is critical to further enable the expansion of the Port’s maritime industry by opening new lines of operations for vessels and local businesses. To generate and grow the economic benefits to the region, the Port and City of New Bedford are continuing to upgrade its infrastructure within the Harbor to accommodate the demands of the seafood, offshore wind, and other maritime industries. With Phase V now complete, attention turns to future phases that will continue to enhance harbor infrastructure, improve resilience, and ensure the Port remains a national model for economic and environmental stewardship."

Officials noted that work will continue on future phases aimed at further improving harbor infrastructure and resilience. The project is intended to help New Bedford remain competitive as a center for seafood processing, offshore wind development, and related maritime activities.
