The Green Bay Packers have added linebacker Nick Niemann to their roster and released cornerback Micah Robinson, according to an announcement from General Manager Brian Gutekunst on Wednesday.
Niemann, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 234 pounds, is entering his fifth year in the NFL. He played college football at the University of Iowa before being selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During his four seasons with the Chargers from 2021 to 2024, Niemann appeared in 64 games and started three times. He tied quarterback Justin Herbert for most games played on the team during that period.
While with the Chargers, Niemann recorded a total of 51 tackles—26 of them solo—a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit, an interception, three passes defensed, and a fumble recovery on defense. On special teams, he made 36 tackles between 2021 and 2024, ranking him tied for No. 13 in the league over that span. He led the Chargers in special teams tackles twice: "He led the Chargers in special teams tackles in 2021 (14) and 2024 (11) and tied for the team lead in 2023 (eight)." Niemann also took part in two postseason games where he registered a tackle on special teams.
After leaving Los Angeles following last season, Niemann spent this past offseason and training camp with the Houston Texans before joining Green Bay. He will wear No. 51 for his new team.
