Rep. Tony Wied, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives who won his seat in 2024 by defeating Kristin Lyerly, recently addressed crime and political violence in a series of social media posts.

On September 10, 2025, Wied posted criticism of Democratic policies on crime, stating: "Democrats' soft-on-crime policies have made our communities less safe and the media has turned a blind eye to it. What happened in North Carolina wasn't an isolated incident. We will not have safe streets until we stop allowing violent repeat offenders to roam free."

Later that day, he commented on political violence, writing: "Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk. There is absolutely zero place for political violence in our country." In another post the same evening, Wied expressed his reaction to an unspecified event with: "Absolutely disgusting. https://t.co/5T2MRBxdMY"

Wied’s statements follow his victory over Kristin Lyerly in the 2024 general election, where he secured 57.3% of the vote compared to Lyerly’s 42.6%. His recent remarks highlight ongoing debates over criminal justice policy and concerns about incidents of political violence.
