Green Bay Water has officially announced the commencement of its annual water main flushing program, starting on Monday, April 22, 2024. The program, deemed essential for maintaining the safety and reliability of the city's drinking water system, involves the proactive flushing of water mains to ensure optimum performance.

"The flushing program may cause temporary inconvenience to our customers, but it is necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of our drinking water system," stated Green Bay Water General Manager Brian Powell.

Throughout the flushing program, crews from the Utility will be strategically opening fire hydrants across the city to allow water to flow at high speeds, effectively clearing any accumulated sediment or mineral deposits within the water mains. While this process may lead to momentary discoloration or cloudiness in the water, it does not compromise the safety or quality of the water supply.

Residents and businesses are advised by the Utility to inspect their water before consumption, cooking, or laundering. In cases where water appears discolored, the Utility recommends running the taps for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

To keep customers informed about the progress of the flushing program, Green Bay Water has made available a Geographic Information System (GIS) map on their website, gbwater.org. This interactive map allows customers to track the flushing progress, indicating which areas have already been flushed and the schedule for upcoming flushing activities.

Powell encourages customers to utilize the GIS map for updates and to reach out to Green Bay Water for any inquiries or concerns during this period. The Utility values the cooperation of its customers as it works towards providing safe and reliable drinking water with exceptional customer service to the community.

For further information on the flushing program, customers are encouraged to visit the FAQ page on the Green Bay Water website and refer to the flushing schedule map. Any additional questions can be directed to Green Bay Water at (920) 448-3480.

Green Bay Water remains committed to ensuring the safety and reliability of the city's drinking water system and appreciates the understanding and support of its customers during the annual flushing program.
