It appears to be smooth riding for the Bird Rides Inc. pilot program aimed at bringing electric scooters to Green Bay, despite the rocky road the company traversed in the city just a few years ago.
Recently Mayor Eric Genrich (D-Green Bay) met with Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford to talk about the program and how it's progressing in his city.
"Always great to meet up with @jakewoodford920 to exchange ideas about cities and share our experiences," Genrich wrote in a July 2 tweet. "Thanks for making the trip, Mayor!"
Green Bay Press Gazette reported electric scooters from Bird Rides Inc. will soon be on the streets of Green Bay on a pilot trial basis. Bird scooters tried to drop off scooters unannounced in 2018, but were kicked out of the city since electric scooters weren't legalized for street and sidewalk riding until last year.
According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, the council recently approved the partnership with Bird Rides, which will deploy 100 electric scooters in the city, although at this point it's unknown when the scooters will arrive. The trial-run is expected to last through the end of the year.
The same report noted Mayor Genrich initiated the pilot program after talking with Woodford about the scooters' success in Appleton.
