Wisconsin residents with questions about the widening of I-41 from Wisconsin Avenue to Scheuring Road will have an opportunity to share their concerns at three public hearings July 27-29.

State Sen. Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) said the legislature recognized the need to increase the number of lanes from four to six on that stretch of highway to not only fix traffic in the area, but also prevent accidents while fixing the existing infrastructure.

"With planning underway, now's your chance to provide any thoughts you may have on the I-41 expansion," Cowles wrote in a recent tweet. "Three public hearings will be held this week with Tuesday's virtual, Wednesday's in De Pere, and Thursday's in Appleton."

The public hearings will be centered around decisions involving the I-41 project between Appleton and De Pere, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WDOT).

WDOT said work will focus on the renovation and expansion of 23 miles of interstate to decrease the congestion and traffic often found along that stretch of the highway. It has still yet to be determined when construction will start.

The agency said the project, along with I-41 in particular, is critical to Wisconsin's long term 2030 highway and interconnection plan.
