Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich noticed the fun Gov. Tony Evers and Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg had in their pickleball game that he called for his own match with Evers.
In addition to issuing a challenge to the governor, Genrich touted his city’s new courts.
“Got some pretty fresh courts in GB, too,” he tweeted on July 23. “Just saying, @GovEvers!”
Evers tweeted that his face-off against Rosenberg was part of the Movin’ with the Mayor pickleball tournament she put on.
WBAY reported that the home of the Packers opened its first official pickleball courts earlier this summer.
The $10,000 project is certain to draw multiple tournaments, the station additionally reported.
“Now we can host tournaments, as this is one of the most popular growing sports that we have right now, pickleball," James Andersen of the Green Bay Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department told the station. "Now we can host the number of players that are coming up here pretty much any day of the week."
If Evers accepts Genrich’s challenge, the former may have a sizable edge.
“I’ve played like half of a game one time, but I am up for this,” Genrich admitted to Rosenberg in a tweet.
Pickleball is a game that combines elements of badminton, table tennis and tennis.
First played in 1965, the game, USA Pickleball writes on its website, is easy for beginners to learn with its simple rules.
