Matt LaFleur’s first two seasons at the helm of the Green Bay Packers were what any head coach with their salt would love to have on their resumes.

LaFleur, who is considered one of the NFL’s brightest offensive scheme artists, led the Packers to back-to-back 13-3 campaigns and NFC title game appearances.

The 2021 offseason, however, was one Titletown would love to forget as the franchise came close to having to start from square one had superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers not decided to run it back in the green and gold for at least one more season thanks to some coaxing from LaFleur, USA Today Packers Wire reported.

That’s one question answered, but many await a response, especially the defense.

“As Matt LaFleur suggested, Za’Darius Smith was indeed doing individual drills at Monday’s #Packers practice,” veteran Packers.com senior writer Mike Spofford tweeted on Sept. 6. “DL Tyler Lancaster also has returned. Only player not practicing was S Vernon Scott.”

USA Today Packers Wire reported that defensive coordinator Joe Barry has an individually talented group at his disposal but is saddled with the unenviable task of hiding its flaws, something Barry’s predecessor, Mike Pettine, failed to do.

If Barry could figure out the conundrums at cornerback, inside linebacker and interior defensive line, it’ll be a risk LaFleur could pat himself on the back for taking.

The Packers began their 2021 campaign against the Drew Brees-less New Orleans Saints on Sept. 12.

Hurricane Ida forced the NFL to relocate the game to Jacksonville, Florida.
