Wisconsin residents Ann and Craig Schueller have turned what was previously dairy farmland into a tourist and events venue.
Ann and Craig bought 160 acres of family farmland from Craig’s family in 2016, and decided to turn from dairy farming into a cherry orchard offering "you pick" cherries. This plan failed after torrential rain killed approximately half of their 250 cherry trees, according to Green Bay Press Gazette.
Seeking alternatives, the Schuellers discovered and began researching agritourism. They started looking into becoming a lavender farm that connected with tourism and events.
After replanting cherry trees, plenty of lavender fields, sprucing up the ponds and gazebos, Butterfly Creek Farms is now open and welcoming visitors.
"A nice local story on Ann and Craig Schueller's farm. Keep up the great work," Wisconsin State Sen. Eric Wimberger wrote in a Sept. 8 Twitter post.
The farm is available for family reunions, anniversaries, birthdays and other events. Activities such as wine tasting and more are planned for the future.
“When we bought the farm, we weren’t sure what we’d do with it, but it didn’t take much time for us to start figuring it out," Ann told the Green Bay Press Gazette. "We are proud to call this special garden our home, and want to share its beauty with you and your guests."
