The Green Bay Botanical Garden is getting a major renovation.
The existing Gertrude B. Nielsen Children’s Garden, situated along the southern boundary of Green Bay Botanical Garden, will come to be known as The Village in 2023, according to the project's website.
The Children’s Garden currently includes a slide tower surrounded by Mr. McGregor’s Garden, a children’s maze, a koi pond and the Stumpf Hobbit House restroom, according to the project's website.
"The new, expanded Children’s Garden will build upon these beloved favorites," the website says.
Renovations are scheduled to begin in 2022 and finish in 2023, according to Fox 11 News. The project will expand the garden from half of an acre to 2.5 acres. And $9.5 million of the $11.5 million needed has already been raised.
"It's really important we give children an opportunity to learn and grow in nature and it really is the healthiest way for our children to learn and grow," Executive Director Susan Garot said to Fox 11 News.
The garden will change names from the Gertrude B. Nielsen Children’s Garden to The Village, according to the project's website. New additions will include a rain drop garden, wetland deck, treehouses and a council of critters.
