Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today announced the military service academy appointments for the Class of 2027 from Wisconsin's Eighth Congressional District. This years appointments come after a highly competitive, rigorous application process in which students submitted materials to Rep. Gallagher's office, interviewed with Rep. Gallagher's Military Academy Nomination Committee, received nominations, and were then accepted by the academy.

The students nominated and appointed for the Class of 2027 are:

  • Charles Duffrin, who attends Pulaski High School and was appointed to the United States Naval Academy. At Pulaski High School, Charlie is a member of the Varsity Football and Captain of the Varsity Swim team. He is also an officer for the National Honor Society and a section leader in the band.
  • Dayne Hoyord, who is from Iola, Wisconsin and was appointed to West Point. As a skilled traveling hockey player, Dayne was recruited to West Point. He has been a scholar-athlete and has received numerous honors awards 9th - 12th grade.

  • Charles Fink, who attends the Air Force Academy Preparatory School and was appointed to the Air Force Academy. Prior to enlisting in the Air Force, Charles was a graduate of Ashwaubenon High School.
Upon announcing this year's appointments, Rep. Gallagher said, "U.S. service academies are some of the world's most prestigious institutions and provide young men and women with an opportunity to serve their country and receive a world-class education. While serving in the military is no easy task, these students have all demonstrated they are some of our best and brightest and up to challenge. I have no doubt they will make Northeast Wisconsin -- and the country -- proud."

In addition to announcing this year's academy appointments, Rep. Gallagher also announced that the application process for Military Service Academy nominations for the Class of 2028 is now open.

As a member of Congress, Rep. Gallagher can nominate high school students in his district to attend a Military Service Academy, including the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

"The privilege to nominate exceptional young students from Northeast Wisconsin to attend a Military Service Academy and serve our great country is one of the best parts of this job," Rep. Gallagher continued. "Serving our country and defending the Republic is challenging, but is the opportunity of a lifetime. If you're a student in Northeast Wisconsin and think you have what it takes, then please apply."
