Welcome back to a special edition of The NEWsflash, where we highlight the stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past year. It has been a year filled with community engagement, service, and gratitude. Throughout the year, we have been reminded of all the things we have to be thankful for in Northeast Wisconsin.
In January, we had the privilege of joining the BC Organics team in Greenleaf for the grand opening of their first-of-its-kind commercial biorefinery. BC Organics is committed to protecting natural resources by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It was a remarkable event, and we are grateful for their dedication to sustainability.
February took us to QComp Technologies in Greenville, where we witnessed the outstanding work they do to improve the productivity and efficiency of companies across different industries. We extend our thanks to the QComp team for hosting us and for their commitment to innovation.
March brought us to the grand opening of the new state-of-the-art Children's Hospital of Wisconsin facility in Appleton. This facility, spanning over 50,000 square feet, is providing world-class healthcare to children and families in Northeast Wisconsin. It is a testament to the dedication to the well-being of our community's youngest members.
In April, we attended the groundbreaking of the Oconto County Veterans Memorial in Oconto. This memorial will honor all past and present veterans from Oconto County, serving as a symbol of gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
May was a month of honoring our veterans, as we had the privilege of presenting long overdue medals to WWII veteran Mr. Joe Mertens. Mr. Mertens played a crucial role in assisting U.S. forces liberate the Philippines, and we thank him for his unwavering service and sacrifice.
June took us to the Wisconsin Dental Association's Mission of Mercy event in Green Bay. This event provided much-needed dental care to children and adults, thanks to the participation of dental professionals and students from across the state. We are grateful for their dedication to improving oral health in our community.
July was a month of advocacy, as we participated in a logging truck ride-along with members of the logging industry in Northeast Wisconsin. We discussed the Safe Routes Act of 2023, a bill aimed at allowing logging trucks to meet legal requirements on the Federal Interstate Highway System. It was an opportunity to engage with the industry and address their concerns.
August was a month of community outreach, as we toured businesses across the 8th Congressional District, covering over 1,000 miles. Our goal was to bring Wisconsin common sense back to Washington, and we are grateful to all the businesses who hosted us and shared their insights.
In September, we visited the Reyes Coca-Cola Facility in Wrightstown, where we learned about their day-to-day operations and the distribution of their products throughout Northeast Wisconsin. We extend our thanks to the Reyes Coca-Cola team for their contribution to our community.
October brought us to the opening of Wisconsin's first sensory trail at Exceptional Equestrians in De Pere. This non-profit organization provides hippotherapy, adaptive riding, and other learning programs. The sensory trail is a wonderful addition to the community, and we wish the Exceptional Equestrians team continued success.
November was a month of honoring our veterans, as we joined Primrose Retirement Community in Appleton to recognize and thank local veterans for their service. It was a humbling experience to express our gratitude to our military heroes.
December was a month of celebration, as we attended the Court of Honor to recognize John Sleeman and Henry Daul for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Their outstanding accomplishment is a testament to the talent and dedication of the young men and women in Northeast Wisconsin.
In addition to these events, our staff attended the Egg Harbor Trails Initiative meeting in Door County. This meeting provided an opportunity for local leaders and community members to discuss ways to build updated and safer pathways that would connect neighborhoods in Door County.
