The Green Bay Packers and the American Red Cross have reached a significant milestone, surpassing 15,000 blood donations through their community blood drives. This partnership began in 2009, with the goal of supporting the Red Cross's mission to meet patient needs across the United States.
Rebecca Rockhill, executive director of the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of the Red Cross, expressed her gratitude for this collaboration. "We're so grateful for our long-standing partnership with the Green Bay Packers and we're thrilled to hit this major milestone of 15,000 life-saving donations," she said.
The organizations host three annual blood drives at Lambeau Field in May, August, and November. The most recent event took place at Johnsonville Tailgate Village. These efforts are crucial as the Red Cross aims to collect nearly 12,500 blood donations daily to supply around 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide.
To facilitate donations, individuals can use various methods such as downloading the American Red Cross Blood Donor App or visiting their website. Eligibility requirements include being at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent where applicable), weighing a minimum of 110 pounds, and being in good health.
The American Red Cross plays a vital role in disaster relief and provides approximately 40% of the nation's blood supply. It relies on volunteers and public generosity to continue its humanitarian work.
