Mayor Eric Genrich of Green Bay has announced the launch of 'Connect Green Bay,' a comprehensive citywide data strategy aimed at enhancing citizen engagement and improving government services. This initiative is part of the city's involvement in the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance (CDA), which includes 65 cities worldwide.
"We’re pleased to unveil a data roadmap for the City and our residents," stated Mayor Genrich. "This plan sets the City on a journey for our community that is better connected to the City’s strategic goals and whose progress is more clearly defined by data-informed successes."
Green Bay's six-month participation in the CDA has provided it with valuable tools and insights to leverage data effectively. Advanced data practices have been shown to significantly increase resident satisfaction by improving service delivery, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making.
The new strategy promises increased certainty and accountability regarding city services' performance. It includes plans for public dashboards and detailed reports that will keep residents informed about city operations and Connect Green Bay's progress, fostering trust and regular communication.
Key initiatives under Connect Green Bay include forming a Data Governance Committee, establishing three-year departmental strategic priorities based on resident feedback, conducting a workforce assessment for strong data skills, inviting external stakeholder feedback, and creating an online hub for real-time updates. These efforts emphasize Green Bay's commitment to transparency and inclusivity.
"With Connect Green Bay, Mayor Eric Genrich and his team have created an innovative blueprint for data use that will benefit the city’s residents for years to come," commented Latricia Boone, Senior Director of Partnerships and Strategy at the Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence.
The CDA supports mayors in utilizing data to inform decisions, tackle challenges, communicate results, and prepare for future needs. Participating cities receive assistance in upgrading artificial intelligence approaches or implementing "data-as-a-service" strategies.
