The City of Green Bay has announced a significant AmeriCorps Earth Day and Arbor Day event, spearheaded by Mayor Eric Genrich and other officials. The event is scheduled to occur just days before the 2025 NFL Draft, as detailed in a press release dated March 17, 2025.
According to the announcement, Mayor Eric Genrich, alongside State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner and Conservation Corps Coordinator Maria Otto, introduced the initiative set for April 22, 2025, at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. With over 300 volunteers anticipated to participate, the project will focus on tree planting, trail system improvements, invasive species removal, and park clean-up. These efforts are supported by federal and state funding, with additional backing from the Volunteer Generation Fund.
This collaboration between the City of Green Bay and AmeriCorps highlights the city's commitment to environmental conservation while preparing for the influx of visitors expected for the 2025 NFL Draft. Volunteers are required to pre-register online, with parking available at Bay Beach Amusement Park to accommodate the expected large turnout. The sanctuary's role in wildlife rehabilitation and nature education programs makes it an ideal setting for this event.
"This is a fantastic partnership between the city and our Conservation Corps to put our best foot forward to celebrate Earth Day and to make sure that our community is looking fantastic as we have hundreds of thousands of visitors coming to the City of Green Bay," said Genrich.
Genrich has been serving as mayor since 2019 after three terms representing Wisconsin's 90th Assembly District. A native of Green Bay, he holds degrees from UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee and has experience working in state and federal government as well as an IT librarian. His office is located at Green Bay City Hall where he maintains weekly open office hours. Requests for appearances or community support funds can be submitted through designated forms, with media inquiries managed separately by the city.
