Wines from the Wisconsin Ledge are gaining recognition both nationally and internationally. The region, traditionally known for its cheese and football, is now earning accolades for its wines. In recent years, the area has received 61 double gold medals, 63 best of class awards, and 32 wines have scored 90 points or higher.

Previously, Wisconsin wine was often associated with cherry or sweet varieties that were not taken seriously. However, the region now offers over 30 wines produced in Northeast Wisconsin. These range from sparkling to sweet to dry and include reds, whites, and rosés.

A recent initiative involved creating a Voluntary Quality Appellation with three other Wisconsin Ledge wineries. This aims to define quality and characteristics for Ledge Blanc wines. To qualify as a Ledge Blanc wine, it must be locally grown and score at least 90 points. This initiative is designed to boost consumer confidence in the quality of these wines and raise awareness of what the area can produce.

The upcoming 14th annual Frozen Tundra Wine Fest will take place on Saturday, February 22 at the Door 44 location. It is the largest outdoor winter wine festival in the Midwest and offers an opportunity for visitors to experience why the Frozen Tundra is becoming famous beyond just football.
