Green Bay officials will present the city's first battery electric bus in a press conference next Monday. This bus will serve the popular Downtown to Titletown route during the NFL Draft, marking a step in the city's move towards sustainable transit solutions.
The event will feature remarks from Patty Kiewiz, Director of Green Bay Metro Transit, and Mayor Eric Genrich, and will take place at the Green Bay Metro Transit Center.
Patty Kiewiz noted the importance of the new vehicle: “Putting the City’s first electric bus into service is a major step forward for Green Bay’s transit system and for our community’s sustainability goals. It’s a visible sign of our dedication to reducing emissions and promoting cleaner, quieter transportation options for residents and visitors.”
The funding for this electric bus came through federal grants, particularly from the Surface Transportation Block Grant. It is part of the city’s "Clean Energy Green Bay Plan", aiming for full renewable energy use and carbon neutrality by 2050. The electric bus debut during the NFL Draft signifies Green Bay’s commitment to clean energy.
Mayor Eric Genrich also commented: “Introducing our first electric bus during Draft week, on Earth Day eve highlights Green Bay’s commitment to the City’s clean energy plan, which calls for us to embrace innovative, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions. It’s an exciting moment for our community, and I’m pleased we’ll be able to showcase this new technology to thousands of new Green Bay Metro riders.”
The media are encouraged to attend to experience the bus firsthand, and to learn more about Green Bay Metro’s transit plans for the Draft week as well as broader efforts to reduce emissions and support sustainable transit solutions.
