The arrival of allergy season brings the need for awareness and management of symptoms. Recognizing these symptoms is the first step in dealing with allergies effectively.
“Seasonal allergy symptoms can have some symptoms that are similar to that of the common cold, which can make it difficult to pinpoint what is the true cause, especially in children,” said Rachel Chastain, APNP specializing in asthma, allergy, and immunology. She noted that “with allergies, we tend to see itchy eyes and/or throat, symptoms appearing during the same time every year and lasting longer than a typical cold.”
Once symptoms are identified, determining their cause or triggers becomes essential. According to Chastain, “several common allergens include pollens from trees, grasses and weeds.” She added that “mold, dander and dust mites are culprits of allergies as well.”
Mold thrives in warmer temperatures and wet conditions. Spring cleaning activities can increase dust mite presence, potentially triggering allergy symptoms.
To manage and reduce allergy symptoms during this season, proactive measures are advised. Identifying specific triggers is crucial for combating symptoms effectively. Emplify Health by Bellin encourages community members to discuss their allergy concerns with healthcare providers.
