Rep. Tony Wied of Wisconsin's 8th District issued a statement regarding the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. He emphasized the high costs and unclear objectives associated with prolonged wars, expressing confidence in President Trump's ability to use diplomacy and strategic pressure to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons without involving American troops.
"I remain confident that President Trump can leverage diplomacy and strategic pressure to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon – without putting American troops in harm’s way and dragging the United States into another costly conflict," said Rep. Wied.
He highlighted Iran's role as a leading state sponsor of terrorism, pointing out its leaders' responsibility for numerous deaths, including Americans. Rep. Wied stated that Iran's support for terrorist proxies and its pursuit of regional dominance pose significant threats to peace in the Middle East.
"Israel, like all sovereign nations, has every right to defend itself from Iran and other rogue actors who do not believe it has a right to exist," he added.
Rep. Wied expressed hope that Iran would return to negotiations, suggesting that it is possible to support Israel while preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons without initiating another war.
"We must learn from our previous mistakes in the Middle East by refusing to spend trillions of taxpayer dollars and endangering the lives of our men and women in uniform in a futile attempt to change the anti-American culture of our enemies," concluded Rep. Wied.
