The Green Bay Public Works Department has announced that Cherry Street will be temporarily closed between North Washington Street and N. Adams Street due to work by NEW Water, the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District.
The closure is scheduled from Monday, August 11, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. until Friday, August 29, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. There will be no official detour provided during this period, so drivers are advised to plan alternate routes. Access for residents and businesses in the area will remain available.
According to city officials, all closures and work schedules depend on weather conditions and may change as needed. Drivers should expect possible traffic delays and are encouraged to use caution in the area.
NEW Water is leading the Downtown Interceptors Renewal Project as part of ongoing efforts to maintain essential sewer infrastructure in downtown Green Bay. The interceptor system includes large underground pipes that have been in service since the 1930s and require upgrades to continue supporting daily activities such as sanitation for homes and businesses. The improvements aim to protect public health and the environment by revitalizing aging infrastructure throughout Northeast Wisconsin.
"The project is led by NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District. NEW Water owns and operates many miles of underground pipes, including a series of larger, deeper pipes called an interceptor system, located throughout Northeast Wisconsin. In downtown Green Bay, portions of this system have been in operation since the 1930s and are in need of improvements to revitalize critical, aging infrastructure to protect public health and the environment."
