The City of Green Bay’s Department of Public Works has announced a temporary closure of Webster Avenue to allow for a sewer project led by NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District. The closure will affect Webster Avenue between Main and Pine Streets, starting Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., and is expected to reopen on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 7:00 a.m.
A detour will be in place using E. Walnut Street, N. Monroe Street, and Main Street. Access to residences and businesses along the affected stretch will remain available during the closure. All schedules are dependent on weather conditions and may change as needed. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution in the area or consider alternate routes.
"This Downtown Interceptors Renewal Project is occurring to ensure that our community can continue to flush the toilet, wash their hands, and run their businesses whenever they want."
The work is part of an effort by NEW Water to upgrade sections of its interceptor system in downtown Green Bay. These underground pipes have been operating since the 1930s and now require improvements to maintain critical infrastructure that supports public health and environmental protection. More information about this project can be found at www.newwater.us/downtown | The Downtown Interceptor Renewal Project.
