Appleton International Airport has received funding from the federal government to help establish a new route of air travel.

FOX 11 News reported that the federal Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASD) granted Appleton International Airport $750,000 and most of it will go toward the creation and support of a new non-stop flight to Dallas/Fort Worth via American Airlines.

"Great news Appleton!" Wisconsin State Sen. Tammy Baldwin wrote in a July 29 Twitter post. "The @ATWAirport will be receiving federal funding that will help support a brand new route. This @USDOT investment will help boost tourism and the Fox Valley economy."

The new Dallas/Fort Worth route will help offset losses the airport has suffered from previously canceled routes.

“This federal investment from the Biden administration will allow ATW to make up for some of the canceled routes and reduced flights that have hurt northeast Wisconsin,” Baldwin said, according to NBC 26 News. “With this federal funding, we will put people back to work and help attract more travelers to our great state.”

The SCASD Program was implemented to help small communities address issues with air travel service and distributed $18 million in grants to fund 22 different programs in 22 different states, NBC 26 News reported.
