Green Bay-area politicians took to social media Thursday, Nov. 11 to honor those who have served in the country's armed forces.

Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich issued a joint proclamation in honor of the day.

"I'm proud to join with Mayor Genrich to issue this joint proclamation honoring #VeteransDay2021," Streckenbach said in his Twitter post that day. His post included a copy of the proclamation.

Green Bay-area veterans were honored throughout the day, including special officers from local businesses such as Applebees’s, Great Clips, Home Depot, Chili's, Packers Heritage Trail Trolley Tours, Segway The Fox Tours and Marcus Theatres.

More than 326,000 veterans live in Wisconsin, about 7.2% of the state’s population, according to an analysis by the website 24/7 Wall St., published in July of last year.

Wisconsin State House Rep. Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) was more philosophical and grateful in his own Twitter post.

"We are free because of the brave," Steineke said in his Veterans Day Twitter post. "Thank you to all the veterans out there who worked to keep us safe."

Steineke's Twitter post included a card with a U.S. flag that read, "Thank you, veterans."

Wisconsin State House Reps. John Macco (R-Ledgeview) and Kristina Shelton (D-Green Bay) also expressed in separate Twitter posts their gratitude to veterans on Veterans Day.

"To all that answered the call and served our nation, thank you," Macco said in his Twitter post.

Macco's post included a card with U.S. flags that read "Thank you, veterans."

"To all our veterans, active troops, their families and loved ones – today and all days, we honor you and your service to our country," Shelton said in her Twitter post. "Thank you for your dedication and sacrifice!"
