About 178 ships passed through the port in 2021 compared to 176 ships in 2020. | Facebook/Port of Green Bay
The Port of Green Bay is reporting an increase in cargo shipments for the year 2021 compared to 2020.
According to FOX 11 News, port officials are reporting that shipments increased by 3% for 2021 for a total of almost 2 million tons of shipments in and out of the port. Over 170 ships passed through the port in 2021 compared to 176 ships in 2020.
"Reaching nearly 2 million tons is a good sign for the port and a nice reflection of the strong local and regional economy," Port of Green Bay Director Dean Haen said, according to FOX 11 News.
The top cargo by tonnage was Limestone, followed by cement and petroleum products.
Next season is expected to begin between mid-March and early April.
The Port of Green Bay is the western-most port of Lake Michigan and a vital part of the state's economy. It offers access to a direct route for shipping raw goods and materials from the Port to regional markets and the heart of the nation.
