A proposal to build a massive warehouse on farmland lining Freedom Road has stalled, with Lawrence Town Administrator Patrick Wetzel reporting Trammel Crow Company is citing “changed market conditions” for the change of plans.

“This is all we’ve received on a reason,” Wetzel added to WBAY.com. “This project is not happening in Lawrence. We’re not aware if it’s happening anywhere else in the area. Aside from the property being listed for sale, there are not any active plans for that property that we are aware of at this time.”

Back in October, word started to spread that Trammell Crow planned to construct a 90-foot-tall warehouse that company officials described as a fulfillment center, adding that the warehouse would create over a thousand new full-time jobs.

Not everyone was excited about the prospect of the facility taking flight, with some arguing that the project would lead to an influx of traffic and declining property values.

Among those speaking out at town meetings has been Lawrence resident Matt Sullivan, who now insists he hopes the two sides can come to a shared vision.

“The board is sometimes using a comprehensive plan to make decisions, and sometimes not using a comprehensive plan in order to make a decision,” he said. “And so, as a result, there’s a level of distrust among the residents and the board. There is not a collective vision.”

The Lawrence Town Board previously approved plans for the facility, with the center slated to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
