The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI are investigating a series of recent bomb threats made to the city of Kiel.
The Kiel Police Department said that the threats have come via email.
"These threats are absolutely unacceptable, and they are despicable," Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul told WLUK recently.
To date, authorities have yet to hold a press conference on the issue, but Kaul has no questions about what he would say.
“These are kids who are trying to go to school and interfering with that putting kids and their parents in a position in which they need to be concerned about their own safety, it's a crime," he told WLUK. “If there are any specific public safety issues that law enforcement becomes aware that the Kiel community needs to know about, those are going to be communicated as quickly as possible so that people are aware of any information that law enforcement knows can impact their safety."
Kaul said investigators are now allowing the probe to take its course, seeking to find out who may be behind sending the emails.
“What I can say is that these types of threats to school safety are a major concern to law enforcement and will be given the utmost seriousness in the investigation," Kaul said.
The DOJ has established a tipline to report possible threats or students who may be in trouble: Visit "Speak up, Speak Out" at speakup.widoj.gov.
