The Green Bay Conservation Corps (GBCC) is organizing a volunteer event on Saturday, October 26, 2024, to mark National Make a Difference Day. This day is recognized as the largest national community service event and takes place annually on the fourth Saturday of October since its inception in 1992.
Volunteers participating in this event will help remove invasive buckthorn from the woodlot at Red Smith Park in Green Bay. The event is designed to be family-friendly and welcomes individuals of all ages and abilities. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with participants meeting at the park shelter before heading into the wooded area. Necessary equipment and tools will be provided, but attendees are advised to wear gloves, closed-toed shoes, and pants due to the off-trail nature of the activity.

The Green Bay Conservation Corps was established in September 2022 as Wisconsin's first municipally based AmeriCorps program. Its mission focuses on enhancing habitats and trails throughout Green Bay's parks and greenways.
