Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) has announced that nominations are now open for Northeast Wisconsin's 2023 Veteran of the Year. This initiative, in its third year, aims to honor a veteran in the region who continues to exhibit exemplary service after returning home.

Gallagher expressed his gratitude towards the veterans in Northeast Wisconsin, stating, "Here in Northeast Wisconsin, we are blessed with generations of veterans who continue to display service, excellence, and dedication to our community. This award is a small way to recognize and thank these heroes for their dedication to our country and ongoing service to Northeast Wisconsin. I look forward to learning more about each nominee and the work they are doing every day to make our community a better place."

Last year, Gallagher received an impressive 30 nominations for the Veteran of the Year. This overwhelming response reflects the strength and commitment of the veteran community in Northeast Wisconsin. After careful consideration, Army veteran Mike Weaver was chosen as the recipient for his heroic service during the Vietnam War and his continued dedication to the region.

To be eligible for the Veteran of the Year award, nominees must meet the following requirements: they must be a veteran of one of the five Armed Forces of the United States, including Reserve or National Guard, or United States Merchant Marines. Additionally, nominated veterans must reside within the Eighth Congressional District, which encompasses various counties in Northeast Wisconsin. A DD-214 form must also be provided as proof of service.

The recipient of the Veteran of the Year Award will be selected based on their commitment to service in the community, demonstration of excellence, and dedication to supporting fellow veterans and building bridges between veterans and the greater Northeast Wisconsin community.

Applications for the award will be accepted from October 16, 2023, to November 10, 2023. The nominations will be reviewed in November, and the Veteran of the Year will be announced in December. For any inquiries, individuals are encouraged to contact Rep. Gallagher's office in De Pere at 920-301-4500.

If you know a Northeast Wisconsin veteran who deserves to be recognized as this year's Veteran of the Year, you can submit a nomination by filling out the form available [here].

This is an excellent opportunity to honor the veterans in Northeast Wisconsin who have dedicated their lives to serving our country and continue to make a positive impact in our community.
