Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) hosted the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's IP Road Show in Green Bay, providing valuable information to local businesses on how to protect and enforce their intellectual property (IP) in China and the United States. The event aimed to equip businesses with the tools they need to combat issues such as counterfeiting and IP theft.
"Northeast Wisconsin businesses of all sizes are on the front line of our economic and technological competition with China," said Rep. Gallagher. "But all too often, our local businesses don't know what tools are available to them when dealing with issues ranging from counterfeiting to intellectual property theft. Today's event brought together local businesses and experts from the U.S. Patent and Trade Office and numerous other federal agencies to help ensure businesses and entrepreneurs have the information they need to push back against the Chinese Communist Party's economic aggression against us."
The event featured industry experts and seasoned practitioners who discussed various topics related to IP protection. Participants gained insight into protecting all types of IP in China, the challenges and opportunities in the shifting IP environment in China, and enforcing IP rights in both China and the United States. They also learned about the resources available to U.S. companies and heard about the experiences of businesses in the Green Bay area.
Rep. Gallagher delivered keynote remarks and moderated a panel of Northeast Wisconsin businesses, providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to share their experiences and challenges. The panel included Erik Iverson, CEO of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation; Ben Wolfgram, Co-Founder of BenShot; Aaron Popkey, Director of Public Affairs for the Green Bay Packers; Nathan Davis, Legal Director of Patent and Intellectual Property Litigation at Whirlpool Corporation/Insinkerator; and Al Cheslock, Partner at Michael Best & Friedrich, LLC, Manitowoc.
The testimonies from the panel highlighted the wide range of challenges faced by local businesses, from apparel trademark infringement to efforts to undermine IP rights in the biohealth and AI sectors.
