The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) has issued a warning to the Latino community regarding an immigration scam that has already defrauded nearly a dozen individuals of substantial amounts of money. Victims of the scam were misled into making cash payments or wire transfers in exchange for promises of expedited U.S. citizenship and assistance with legal matters.

Lieutenant Jena Luberda of the Green Bay Police Department emphasized, “If anybody promises you, they can speed up your immigration status, do not do it. It is a scam. We ask that you contact your local law enforcement immediately. We do not want anyone else to lose money."

The scammers have been falsely claiming to have connections within immigration services to manipulate victims into believing they can accelerate the processing of their legal paperwork. Lt. Luberda highlighted that scammers often employ tactics of urgency and pushiness to catch victims off guard.

The Green Bay Police Department is urging residents who may have been targeted by these scammers to come forward with any relevant information. Individuals are encouraged to provide details such as names, physical descriptions, contact information, text messages, emails, vehicle descriptions, photos, or any other relevant documentation to aid in the investigation.

Residents of Green Bay who suspect they have been in contact with these scammers are advised to contact the Green Bay Police Department at (920) 448-3200, referencing cases #24-218444 and #24-218520. For those who wish to remain anonymous, they can reach out to Crime Stoppers at (920) 432-STOP (7867) or submit tips online at www.432stop.com.

Furthermore, individuals residing outside of Green Bay who believe they have been targeted by similar scams are urged to contact their local law enforcement agencies for assistance.

For any media inquiries or additional information, Jennifer Gonzalez, Communications Coordinator for the Green Bay Police Department, can be reached at (920) 448-3200 or jennifer.gonzalez@greenbaywi.gov.
