The Green Bay Packers have claimed kicker James Turner off waivers from the Detroit Lions, General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced on Monday.

Turner, a 6-foot, 190-pound rookie out of the University of Michigan, was initially signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. He played one season for the Wolverines in 2023 after spending four years at the University of Louisville from 2019 to 2022. Over his college career, Turner made 65 out of 80 field goals (81.3 percent) and converted 189 out of 193 extra points (97.9 percent), totaling 384 points.

Last season, Turner earned second-team All-Big Ten honors after leading the conference in extra points made (65 out of 66, or 98.5 percent) and field-goal percentage (18 out of 21, or 85.7 percent). Turner will wear No. 16 for the Packers.
