Edward R. Policy, the Green Bay Packers' chief operating officer and general counsel, has been elected as the organization's next Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO. He will formally assume this position in July 2025 at the Packers Annual Meeting of Shareholders when Mark Murphy officially retires.

Policy, who is entering his 13th year with the organization and seventh as COO, was elected by the Packers Board of Directors as the franchise's 11th Chief Executive Officer in a unanimous vote. The election followed a recommendation from a search committee led by chair Susan Finco and vice chair Dan Ariens.

"Congratulations to Ed on this well-deserved promotion to what I believe is the most unique and meaningful position in professional sports," said Murphy. "Ed has been a tremendous asset to the organization during his 12 years here and has been greatly instrumental in our success. His work on Titletown has been particularly impactful."

Murphy will continue to lead the Packers over the next 13 months and will work with Policy during a transition period that includes the upcoming season and culminates in July 2025. Policy will remain in his COO role until then.

"I am incredibly honored, excited, and grateful to the search committee, the Board, shareholders, and entire organization for this treasured opportunity," said Policy. "I am particularly grateful to Mark for 12 years of mentorship."

The search process began with initial work by the Executive Committee in early 2023 and continued with forming a search committee in May. A subsequent timeline was established following NFL requirements that interviews occur only between February through July.

"Our Board thanks the search committee for their many hours of work," said Finco. "We unanimously agreed that Ed Policy is an excellent person to lead our organization."

The search committee worked through more than 90 prospects before recommending Policy after conducting virtual and in-person interviews.

"We had a responsibility to conduct a comprehensive search," said Ariens. "Ed brings incredible talents and skills to this role."

The Packers Board of Directors' search committee included members representing diverse skills and industries: Mike Simmer (treasurer), DJ Long (personnel), Marcia Anderson (executive committee), Karl Schmidt (executive committee), Michael Barber (Packers Foundation chair), Jeff Joerres (investment committee chair), Eddie Garcia (former player), Robyn Davis (board member at-large) and Mike Daniels (board member at-large).

Policy directs legal affairs for the organization while leading departments such as communications, marketing, sales, security, development, hospitality, fan engagement, business development efforts like TitletownTech—a venture capital firm formed out of a partnership between Microsoft—and other community initiatives.

His professional sports experience includes nine years with Arena Football League where he served various roles including commissioner. He also consulted for NFL senior management on strategic matters from 2009-10.
