The Green Bay Packers announced a partnership with Batteries Plus to promote battery recycling among fans. The initiative was unveiled at Lambeau Field, with U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and other Department of Energy officials in attendance.

Fans will be encouraged to bring used batteries to local Batteries Plus stores for free recycling drop-offs. Wisconsin recyclers can win prizes, including the chance to present the game ball at a Packers home game. Schools are also invited to participate in recycling contests, with winning classrooms receiving exclusive experiences at Lambeau Field.

Batteries Plus displays will provide information on battery recycling at Lambeau Field's Fan Walkway before upcoming games. Aaron Popkey, Packers director of public affairs, stated, "The Green Bay Packers are proud to be a part of this vital initiative."

The initiative is funded by a $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy aimed at increasing battery recycling nationwide. Scott Williams, CEO of Batteries Plus, said, "This grant is a pivotal step in our mission to make battery recycling accessible and mainstream."

Secretary Granholm remarked on the importance of responsible recycling for American energy independence: "We need to be extracting the critical materials in these batteries in a responsible way by recycling the materials we already have in our system."

Batteries Plus has been involved in battery recycling for 30 years and processes 50 million pounds annually. This partnership aims to expand these efforts further.
