The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive linemen Brevin Allen and Zach Morton, as well as kicker Alex Hale. Concurrently, the team has waived/injured cornerback Don Callis and wide receiver Rory Starkey. The transactions were announced Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Allen (6-4, 265), a first-year player from Campbell University, was initially signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. After being released post-training camp, he spent his rookie season on the Chargers' practice squad and appeared in two games without registering any stats. In college, Allen played in 44 career games (2018-22) and earned FCS All-America recognition twice. He set a school record with 38 career tackles for loss and ranked second all-time with 20.5 sacks at Campbell University. Following the 2021 season, Allen was named Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year and received all-conference honors each of his final four seasons. He will wear No. 43 for the Packers.
Hale (6-1, 203), a rookie from Oklahoma State who began his career as a walk-on, hails from Gosford, New South Wales, Australia. He was a two-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist (2020, 2023) and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2023. Hale concluded his college career with a field goal percentage of .796 (43 of 54), ranking fifth in school history. His total of 43 field goals places him eighth in OSU history. Additionally, he made 47 consecutive PAT attempts from 2021 to 2023, tying for the tenth-longest streak in school history. Hale will wear No.16 for the Packers.
Morton (6-5, 261), another first-year player out of Akron University, originally signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023 but was released on August 5 that year. In early 2024, he played for the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL. During his college tenure at Syracuse (2017-21) and Akron (2021-22), Morton participated in a total of thirty games (24 starts), recording sixty-one tackles, ten tackles for loss, five-and-a-half sacks,two forced fumbles,and two interceptions.He will wear No60for the Packers.
