Nick Schroeder of Barron High School in Barron, Wisconsin, has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week. This announcement comes as Schroeder leads the Bears to a 5-0 start this season, following a challenging period with a 5-46 record over the past six seasons.
Schroeder attributes this turnaround to his players, coaches, and community. "It starts with our kids. Since day one, they didn't have to believe in us [coaches], and they've bought into everything we've been preaching about being a family," he said. He also highlighted the role of community support: "We also have an incredibly supportive administration and community that have had our backs since day one."
The coach emphasized the importance of community involvement for his team. "Every opportunity we get, we're getting our guys out to do volunteer work," he stated. An example includes skipping a fall practice day to volunteer at a Special Olympics softball tournament.
Schroeder's journey began in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He graduated from Arrowhead High School in 2013 and played quarterback under Greg Malling and Tom Taraska. He continued playing at Wisconsin Lutheran College before transferring to Lakeland University, where he graduated in 2018. His coaching career started at Lakeland University before moving on to Kettle Moraine High School as offensive coordinator.
Honored by the award, Schroeder shared credit with his staff and players: "It's a testament to the hard work that our players have put in on and off the field for building our culture." His coaching staff includes Trent Nelson, Jordan Haas, Nick Mauthe, Bob Edwards, and Mike Thompson.
The Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week program recognizes one outstanding high school coach each week during the football season. Winners receive various items including a $1,000 donation to their school's football program from the Packers and NFL Foundation.
Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 10 a.m. every Monday to Jake Krueger at coachoftheweek@packers.com.
