UW-Green Bay is addressing the increasing demand for employee training and skill development in Northeast Wisconsin. According to their 2024 Continuing Education and Workforce Training Business Survey, human resource managers in the region are facing challenges in assessing training needs, gaining leadership support, and finding affordable training programs. The university is responding by expanding its customized training solutions.
“The velocity and scale of workforce training and retraining needs are a challenge for small and large employers alike, and the needs keep growing,” stated UW-Green Bay Chancellor Michael Alexander. He emphasized that rapid technological advances, automation, and AI are influencing workplace skills requirements. “Our role as a regional comprehensive university includes partnering with employers to navigate the change and deliver the education and training their employees need.”
Jess Lambrecht, executive officer for Continuing Education and Workforce Training at UW-Green Bay, highlighted successful partnerships with companies like Kohler, Prevea, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and Festival Foods. “Employees who feel valued and invested in by their employers are less likely to leave, so supporting them is just good business,” she said.
The university is a major provider of continuing education in Wisconsin, serving one-third of the state's needs. Last year alone, they trained 85,883 learners through their Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Training.
Lambrecht also mentioned an ongoing collaboration with the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) to create courses tailored to school business office professionals across Wisconsin. Courses offered include Introduction to Accounting and Internal Controls for the School Business Office.
“Our survey and what we’re hearing from companies and organizations is that the gaps for training and retraining exist in all areas,” Lambrecht added.
