Packers honor veteran David Zawicki during 'Operation Fan Mail

The Green Bay Packers, in collaboration with Network Health, honored U.S. Army veteran David Zawicki during their game against the San Francisco 49ers as part of 'Operation Fan Mail.' This initiative is now in its 18th season and recognizes military families and veterans at each Packers home game.

David Zawicki's military career began in 1980 when he joined the U.S. Army. He served in Germany during the Cold War and participated in Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. Despite an injury that curtailed his active-duty service, Zawicki has continued to serve as an Army Civilian for three decades.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Zawicki has been a lifelong fan of the Packers. Even while stationed overseas, he ensured he could watch his team play, witnessing their victories in Super Bowl XXXI and Super Bowl XLV from Germany.

Accompanied by his wife Carmela and daughters Madeline and Victoria, Zawicki attended Sunday's game. His daughter Madeline nominated him for recognition as he nears retirement next month after over 44 years with the U.S. Army. Currently residing in San Antonio, Texas, Zawicki is stationed at Fort Sam Houston with the Army Installation Management Command.

'Operation Fan Mail,' which started in 2007, aims to honor active duty members or veterans of the military along with their families. Selected families receive four tickets to a game courtesy of Network Health and are recognized on-field during pregame activities. Over 213 families have been acknowledged since the program's inception.

To participate, interested families or friends can submit an essay explaining why a particular fan should be saluted this season. Essays should be sent to Operation Fan Mail via mail or online submission through packers.com/Lambeau-field/operation-fan-mail.
