Bill Jacklin, head coach of Slinger High School's football team, has been named the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA)/Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Year. In his 14th year leading the Slinger Owls, Jacklin guided his team to a perfect 14-0 season, culminating in a narrow 31-30 victory over Rice Lake in the WIAA Division 2 state championship on November 22 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.
Jacklin expressed pride in his team's achievement and emphasized the strong bond within the group. "The overwhelming word we use all the time is love," he said. He highlighted how this connection contributed to their success: "They get more excited for their teammates than themselves."
Jacklin is an alumnus of Slinger High School, where he played under coach Vic Erickson. After graduating from Cardinal-Stritch University and earning a master's degree there as well, he began coaching in 1994 and took over as head coach at Slinger before the 2011 season.
Honored by his recent award, Jacklin attributed it to those around him. "I'm very emotional and honored," he stated. "I truly believe it's a group award."
Under Jacklin's leadership, Slinger fields a program with 133 players, including 64 varsity participants. His assistant staff includes Mike Wadman and Tony Callen among others. Beyond coaching football, Jacklin teaches fourth grade at Addison Elementary School.
In recognition of this honor, the Green Bay Packers will donate $2,000 to Slinger's football program from both the Packers and NFL Foundation. Jacklin will be recognized at the WFCA All-State Banquet held at Lambeau Field Atrium.
The WFCA/Packers Coach of the Year program marks its 27th year with this award. The WFCA has been awarding this honor since 1976 while the Packers have been involved since 1998.
