In recognition of Mark Murphy's final season as President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, the team plans to honor him with a special halftime ceremony on December 23, during their game against the Saints. This event will feature remarks from Murphy and a video retrospective of his leadership.
Murphy's tenure, which began in 2008, spans 17 seasons and includes significant accomplishments. Under his guidance, the Packers have made 12 playoff appearances and won Super Bowl XLV. He has also overseen substantial investments in Lambeau Field without using public tax funds, focusing on enhancing fan experiences and maintaining top-tier facilities for players and coaches.
Murphy was instrumental in developing Titletown, a 45-acre area that offers year-round public activities and houses TitletownTech, a joint venture with Microsoft aimed at fostering economic growth through technology. His efforts have increased the use of Lambeau Field for various events beyond football.
Before joining the Packers, Murphy had an eight-year playing career with the Washington Redskins and held roles as assistant executive director of the NFL Players Association and trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice. He also served as director of athletics at Colgate University and Northwestern University for a total of 16 years. Notably, he is believed to be the first individual to win a Super Bowl both as a player (Super Bowl XVII) and as a CEO (Super Bowl XLV).
Murphy is set to retire officially in July 2025.
