The Green Bay Packers have announced Mai J. Lo Lee as the recipient of their 2024 Inspire Change Changemaker Award. This annual award is part of the NFL's Inspire Change initiative, which focuses on education, economic advancement, police-community relations, and criminal justice reform.
Mai J. Lo Lee has been a significant figure in Northeast Wisconsin for over 17 years, promoting inclusion and wellbeing for underrepresented groups through her advocacy and educational work. She currently holds the position of culture and engagement strategist at the Division of Public Health within the State of Wisconsin's Department of Health Services. Her academic journey includes earning a bachelor's degree from UW-Eau Claire and a master's in education from UW-La Crosse.
Lo Lee's career includes 16 years at UW-Green Bay, where she served as Multi-Ethnic Director of Student Affairs and Senior Multicultural Advisor. Her contributions to community and education were recognized in 2023 with awards such as the Insight Difference Maker Community Award and the Fox Cities Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Educator Award.
In addition to her professional roles, Lo Lee was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Council on Equity and Inclusion in 2021. She has also been involved with organizations like Wisconsin Public Radio, Green Bay Botanical Garden, and Toward One Wisconsin.
Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy stated, "We are pleased to honor Mai for the work she has done in our community by naming her our Inspire Change Changemaker award recipient." He emphasized her wide-ranging impact on social justice initiatives throughout Wisconsin.
Lo Lee will be acknowledged during the Packers' Inspire Change game against the New Orleans Saints on December 23rd. As part of this recognition, she will receive a $10,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to support a nonprofit organization of her choice; she plans to direct these funds toward the Fox Valley Literacy Program.
Each year, NFL clubs select a community leader for this award as part of their commitment to social responsibility. Anna Isaacson, Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility at the NFL, commented on this year's recipients: "The NFL and Inspire Change take pride in recognizing the incredible efforts of these 32 Changemakers who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of those around them."
