Green Bay Packers Give Back has awarded a $250,000 Social Justice Impact Grant to the "I Have A Dream" Foundation - Milwaukee. This grant is part of the organization's effort to support social justice and racial equality in Wisconsin.
The "I Have A Dream" Foundation provides long-term individualized support to young people from marginalized communities, starting from kindergarten through post-secondary education. Participants are guaranteed college tuition support. Since its inception in 1981, nearly 20,000 students have benefited from over 200 programs nationwide.
Founded in 2007, the Milwaukee chapter of the foundation has expanded its services over the years to help more children. It aims to empower students at school, home, and within their communities by offering comprehensive support from first grade until they secure their first job. In 2022, the chapter launched a new cohort with an emphasis on wrap-around support for participants and their families. Currently, it serves 100 third graders and their families, including 161 siblings.
Dan Schiller, Executive Director of "I Have A Dream" Foundation – Milwaukee expressed gratitude for the grant: "We at 'I Have A Dream' Foundation – Milwaukee are overwhelmed and overjoyed by this incredible gift from the Green Bay Packers." He added that their work focuses on building relationships and understanding the needs of kids and families who have been denied basic necessities. Schiller emphasized that every student has potential and this investment will help them thrive.
The Social Justice Impact Grant is part of Green Bay Packers Give Back's broader charitable efforts which exceeded $13 million last year.
