The Green Bay Packers have announced several changes to their coaching staff, as revealed by Head Coach Matt LaFleur on Thursday. Among the new appointees is DeMarcus Covington, who joins the team as the defensive line/run game coordinator. Covington arrives in Green Bay after eight seasons with the New England Patriots, where he worked steadily through the ranks from coaching assistant to defensive coordinator. Notably, during his tenure as a position coach and defensive coordinator, New England ranked highly in various defensive metrics.
Luke Getsy returns to the Packers, this time as a senior assistant, after previously holding multiple roles in the team's coaching setup from 2014 to 2021. Getsy's recent experience includes serving as offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders.
Cory Harkey steps in as a special teams quality control coach. His background includes a stint as the assistant special teams coach for the Buffalo Bills, alongside experience coaching tight ends and special teams at the collegiate level.
Jeremiah Kolone joins as an offensive assistant under a minority fellowship, having previously been involved in offensive analysis at the University of Central Florida and working at the University of Arizona.
Jeff Koonz takes on the role of defensive assistant following a lengthy college coaching career. Most recently, he served as the special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach for West Virginia University.
Jamael Lett is appointed as a defensive quality control coach. His background spans various collegiate roles, including a position as a defensive coaching assistant with the New England Patriots.
Promotions within the Packers' ranks include Sean Duggan, now the linebackers coach, and Sean Mannion, who moves up to quarterbacks coach. Duggan joined the Packers last season and has previous coaching experience at Boston College. Mannion, a former NFL quarterback, spent nine seasons in the league before transitioning to coaching.
Connor Lewis has been moved to pass game specialist/game management, reflecting his evolving role within the Packers organization.
Coach LaFleur's announcements come as part of the team's ongoing adjustments to their coaching staff in preparation for the upcoming season.
