The City of Green Bay has announced a temporary adjustment to the operating schedule of the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge. This change, aimed at facilitating preventative maintenance activities, will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., as said in a press release issued on April 10, 2025.

According to the announcement, during this period, the bridge will be secured to masted navigation and will not open for vessels requiring clearance. However, vessels capable of passing under the bridge may do so at any time. Vehicular traffic will remain unaffected throughout the closure period. The city emphasized that this change is part of routine maintenance efforts to ensure the continued safety and functionality of the bridge.

Green Bay operates the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge over the Fox River during the shipping season from April 1 to December 1. Drawbridge openings are restricted on weekdays during specific timeframes—7–8 a.m., noon–1 p.m., and 4–5 p.m.—except on Sundays and holidays. However, according to city regulations, the bridge must open at all times for U.S. mail vessels, government vessels, large commercial vessels over 300 tons, and emergency tugs or fireboats.

Occasionally, special closures may be scheduled for city events such as Fourth of July fireworks when the bridge will not lift. Any issues with Green Bay’s fixed-span or pedestrian bridges or with boat docks or piers at the Green Bay Metropolitan Boat Launch should be reported to city authorities.

The Green Bay Public Works Department oversees various services essential for maintaining city infrastructure and environment. These include garbage collection, mandatory recycling, yard waste management, street maintenance, stormwater management, parking services, sanitary sewer system management, and sidewalk safety. The department's Engineering Division designs and supervises public works projects while its Stormwater Utility focuses on improving water quality and managing runoff.
