The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has confirmed USA Football as the official national governing body for American football. This development comes ahead of the sport's debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Flag football, guided by USA Football, will be featured in the Olympic Games for the first time. The organization will handle the selection, training, and leadership of both the men's and women's national teams as they prepare for Olympic competition.

The inclusion of flag football in the Olympics was decided in October 2023 when the International Olympic Committee added the sport to the 2028 schedule. While interest from notable NFL players has been noted, specifics regarding their participation remain unresolved.

USA Football has a history of overseeing both tackle and flag football. The USOPC has verified its financial stability to support Team USA athletes while adhering to essential training and safety protocols.

Mark Murphy, President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, is a member of USA Football's volunteer board of directors.
