The Green Bay Area Public School District has announced Volunteer Appreciation Week, highlighting the contributions of East High School students in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Sullivan Elementary School. The announcement was made through a press release on April 21, 2025.

According to the press release, East High School students are participating in a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Sullivan Elementary, where they act as mentors for younger students. Several mentoring pairs, such as Estefanie and Mariam, Lydia and Brooklynn, Avyona and Mytisean, Taniyah and Layia, and Guadalupe and Valeria, exemplify the positive impacts of these relationships.

The district reports that its volunteers have collectively donated over 30,000 hours of their time, valued at approximately $1 million based on national volunteer work standards. This reflects the ongoing support from volunteers who significantly impact the lives of more than 18,500 students within the district.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been committed to helping children reach their full potential since 1904 by fostering meaningful one-to-one mentoring relationships between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"). These relationships are said to promote positive outcomes such as higher aspirations, greater confidence, educational success, and reduced risky behaviors. The organization aims to empower youth through mentorship by working closely with parents, volunteers, and the community.

The Green Bay Area Public School District is located in Northeast Wisconsin and is the fourth-largest public school district in the state. It serves over 18,000 students across 39 schools in communities including Allouez, Ledgeview, Bellevue, Green Bay, and Scott. Founded in 1856, the district offers diverse educational pathways to meet student needs. Its history includes a century-old football rivalry between East and West high schools and City Stadium's legacy as the original home field for the Green Bay Packers. The district's mission is to prepare students for success in college, careers, and their communities.
