As part of the entertainment lineup for the NFL Draft weekend, over 1,200 drones are set to illuminate the Green Bay skyline. This marks the first drone show of its kind in the city's history. Scheduled to occur after the conclusion of the third round at approximately 11 p.m. Central Time, the drones will form choreographed patterns above Lambeau Field. The display is intended to honor the tradition of the Draft and the legacy of the Packers football team.
The event has been planned in collaboration with the NFL, the Green Bay Packers, the FAA, and local law enforcement. Despite the typically restricted airspace due to the Draft, an exception has been made for this controlled show.
Emphasizing safety, the NFL has adhered to FAA safety protocols for the event. Drones will not fly over people, vehicles, or crowds and will be confined to a designated area. "Safety remains the NFL's top priority," states the release.
The FAA has declared the NFL Draft a NO DRONE ZONE, issuing Temporary Flight Restrictions from Thursday, April 24, to Saturday, April 26. During these times, only drones operated by law enforcement or with explicit FAA permission are allowed. The NFL advises the public to refrain from bringing personal drones to the event and notes that unauthorized drones will be reported to law enforcement.
