Green Bay announces process for filling District 8 aldermanic vacancy

The City of Green Bay Clerk, Celestine Jeffreys, has informed the residents and electors of District 8 about the resignation of Alder Christopher Wery. His resignation will take effect on May 16, 2025.

According to Wisconsin Statutes Section 17.23, the Green Bay Common Council is tasked with selecting an interim Alder to serve the remainder of Wery's term, which concludes on April 21, 2026. Residents interested in filling this vacancy must reside in Aldermanic District 8 and are required to submit an application along with nomination papers containing at least 20 valid signatures but no more than 40. Applicants might be requested to present their qualifications to the Council.

Those wishing to apply should visit the city's website at https://www.greenbaywi.gov/1548/District-8-Vacancy for more information and submit their applications by June 6, 2025, at 11:30 am.

The selection process will involve a majority vote by the remaining eleven members of the Common Council. The chosen candidate will serve from June 10, 2025, until April 21, 2026.
