The City of Green Bay has been named one of the 2024 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Culture of Health Prize winners. This national recognition honors communities that are leading efforts to improve health, opportunity, and equity for all residents.

The RWJF Culture of Health Prize acknowledges communities making significant progress in creating safe and supportive environments. Green Bay is among nine communities nationwide to receive this honor, which includes a $250,000 award and acknowledgment for its collaborative initiatives aimed at fostering a healthier and more equitable future.

“This award is a testament to the dedication and partnership of Green Bay’s residents, nonprofits, businesses, and local leaders who are working together to ensure everyone in our city has the opportunity to live their healthiest life,” said Mayor Eric Genrich. “By centering the lived experiences of our diverse communities and focusing on equity, we are building a city where all voices are heard, and all people can thrive.”

Green Bay's recognition highlights its innovative approaches addressing housing, food security, health services, and community inclusion. Local leaders from various sectors have collaborated to develop a framework for assessing wellbeing by examining physical and mental health, social connections, income levels, housing conditions, and safety within the community. These efforts focus on integrating the cultures and voices of all residents to better meet community needs.

Since 2013, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has awarded more than 60 communities with the Culture of Health Prize. The prize recognizes those addressing structural racism and other injustices while advancing health equity. Winning communities exemplify what can be achieved when residents work together with organizations and local leaders toward equitable opportunities for thriving.
