The Green Bay Packers have signed quarterback Taylor Elgersma and released guard Marquis Hayes. The announcement was made by General Manager Brian Gutekunst on Monday.
Taylor Elgersma, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 227 pounds, is a rookie hailing from London, Ontario, Canada. He joined the Packers' rookie minicamp as a tryout player. Previously, he was selected in the second round of the Canadian Football League Draft by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
During his college career at Wilfrid Laurier University, Elgersma played in 41 games over four seasons. He completed 793 out of 1,121 passes for a completion rate of 70.7 percent, amassing 10,547 yards with an average of 257.2 yards per game. His record includes 78 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 605 yards on 127 carries with an average of 4.8 yards per carry and scored 18 rushing touchdowns.
In recognition of his performance in the previous year, Elgersma received several accolades including the Hec Crighton Award as U SPORTS football's Most Outstanding Player. He was also named the Uteck Bowl Nike Offensive Player of the Game and Yates Cup Most Valuable Player. His achievements include being a two-time MVP in Ontario University Athletics (OUA), securing a place on the U Sports All-Canadian second team for the year 2023-24, and earning OUA first-team all-star honors.
Elgersma will be wearing jersey number 19 for the Packers.
